Office of the Test Directorate (OTD) Van Refurbishment
Contract: White Sands Missile Range, NM; 9/88 - 1/90

EMI refurbished three GFE 45-foot instrumentation vans which support OTD experiments, renovating the ECU, equipment racks and cabinets, as well as interior and exterior surfaces. EMI also reconfigured and re-cabled the video and communication control systems, fabricating, labeling, installing and testing the new cabling network.

 Mobile System Trailer (Catalog #05000-007)
Contract: Pajarito Scientific Corporation, Los Alamos, NM; 9/95 - 12/95

Pajarito contracted with EMI to purchase a chassis and engineer and fabricate a 40-foot shelter to be used as an assay van. EMI divided the interior into a control room and an assay room. EMI furnished the control room with equipment racks/control console and office furniture, and power monitoring, breaker and feedthrough panels. In the assay room, a winch-operated fold-down door in the side of the van becomes a conveyer system, powered by electric motor, for transporting up to 2,000 lb. loads in and out of the van. Two Hoffman electronic control boxes were installed by EMI; electronics were installed by the customer.

 Radiometric Imaging System (RIS) Van Mod
Contract: Optimetrics, Inc., Las Cruces, NM; 4/92 - 8/92

Optimetrics required modifications to an existing van. On the exterior EMI installed leveling jacks; rear double doors; side personnel door with step assembly; reinforced roof with collapsible safety rail; roof access ladder; and underneath storage compartments. On the interior, EMI performed electrical wiring; installed reinforced anchor strips for securing equipment, a workbench, and equipment racks; and installed carpeted tiles into the existing raised steel grid floor. EMI partitioned a separate room and purchased and installed kitchen equipment, battery charger, uninterruptable power supply, and 2000 lb. capacity lifting crane.

 OTD 53' Transportable Van (Catalog #05000-009)
Contract: White Sands Missile Range, NM; 4/98 - 1/99

A 53-foot van was purchased by EMI and modified as an instrumentation van. EMI insulated, wired and finished walls, ceiling and floor. The floor is a raised computer floor, the ceiling is a drop acoustical tile ceiling with recessed lighting, and the walls are carpeting over plywood. Load center, patch panel and meter panel were integrated. EMI furnished the shelter with wood storage cabinetry with laminate work surfaces, equipment racks on slides, and 6.5 KW UPS unit. Additional GFE racks and slides were installed. On the exterior, EMI provided and installed ECU, and roof deck with safety rail system and access ladder. A 35 KW generator was provided on a separate trailer.

 Mobile Assay Van (Catalog #05000-010)
Contract: Los Alamos National Lab, Los Alamos, NM; 2/99 - 4/99

The assay van is used for performing neutron assays of large waste containers. The 48-foot van is a "low boy" design divided into a forward control room, center assay section and rear storage area. EMI completely engineered and fabricated the van, providing all electrical wiring, lighting and environmental conditioning system. Safety features include fire retardant plywood, safety glass and fire suppression system. Walls are either carpeted or covered with fiberglass reinforced paneling; floors are finished with either rubberized safety tile or aluminum treadplate; ceilings are finished with acoustical tile. Exterior double doors are installed streetside and a roll-up door is installed curbside. Communications equipment includes intercom and phone jack. Furnishings include work stations and storage cabinets. Assay equipment was installed by the customer.

 Mobile CER-EAGE Trailer Refurbishment (Catalog #05000-010)
Vandenberg Air Force Base, McClellan, CA; 9/01 – 6/02

EMI performed a complete refurbishment of a used 40-foot long dry freight van. The rear roll-up door and the side personnel door were removed and replaced with new personnel doors with security hardware and step assemblies. The exterior was sandblasted, then sanded, primed and repainted with automotive paint. A white latex roof coating was applied to the roof. Two 5-ton air conditioning units are installed on the exterior front wall. The rear is fitted with stabilizing jacks. A full-width belly box is installed underneath the van to store the two removable platform and step assemblies. The interior walls were stripped to the insulation and the floor was covered with galvanneal steel. All interior and exterior electrical wiring, lighting and power panels were replaced. A partitioning wall with door was installed, dividing the interior into two compartments. The interior is finished with a raised computer floor, carpeting-over-plywood walls, and a dropped acoustical tile ceiling. In addition to ceiling lighting, a fluorescent light is installed behind each of the equipment racks to illuminate the rear of the rack when pulled away from the wall. Signal entry panel is installed. Security system is provided. Fifteen equipment racks with enclosed front, rear, and sides are installed on slides on the streetside wall. Twist lock outlets provide power to the racks. Two laminate fold-down workbenches are installed on the curbside wall. A Hoffman box covers the signal entry panel; security system outlet feeds into a second Hoffman box. A fire detection and alarm system, fire extinguishers, smoke/CO detectors and emergency light are provided.

 SCI TEC JMITS OTD (Catalog #05000-022)
Contract: SCI TEC, NM; 4/05 - 12/05

The SCI TEC-OTD Shelter is a commercial 53-foot dry freight van, modified to serve as a weather van. The van is insulated and provided with all wiring, interior/exterior lighting, and air conditioning/heating. A personnel door with step assembly is provided on the streetside wall. An insulated weatherproof wall is installed in the rear, approximately 100" from the double rear doors. The rear doors are provided with a lift gate. Interior walls are finished with carpeting, floor is raised computer tile, and the drop ceiling is finished with carpeting. Recessed unistrut channel is provided on the walls and floor for equipment tiedown. The van is furnished with equipment racks on slides with power strips, and two fold-down work surfaces. Two signal I/O panels, on the rear curbside, and 16 dual data jacks are provided.  Emergency and safety equipment are supplied. Six 48-inch storage boxes are provided on the exterior, three mounted on the curbside and three mounted on the streetside.

 42' Instrumentation Trailer (Catalog #05000-023)
Contract: Kirtland AFB, NM; 4/05 - 12/05

The Kirtland 42' Trailer is a Wells Cargo Gooseneck Compac, Model CVG-4239W, 18,000 GVW, trailer. The trailer is modified with Holland hitch, stabilizer jacks and rear entry cargo doors. The roof is reinforced for a safety rail system and roof observation deck. Also provided are air conditioning, interior and exterior wiring and lighting. The trailer is foam insulated over ½" plywood and finished with white fiberglass reinforced panels on walls and ceiling and Roppe tile on the floor. The trailer is partitioned into a front and rear compartment. The front section is divided into a 10 foot office area. The rear section is designed as a 15 foot equipment area. The gooseneck area is designed for storage.
